Course Overview
International paediatric course with illness, trauma and cardiac resuscitation education using a combination of lectures, skill sessions, simulations and team work. This one day course is designed for candidates who have already undertaken the APLS course and after 4 years wish to recertify.
This one-day face-to face course was developed in response to the need for recertification for experienced candidates who had already completed two 2-day courses in their career. It continues to teach the multidisciplinary approach to the seriously ill or injured child. The course includes a flexible online component (VLE) which the candidates have to complete before attending the face-to-face element of the course.

Who will benefit:
- This Advanced Paediatric Life Support recertification programme is for candidates who have already undertaken the APLS course and after four years wish to recertify.
- All recertifying candidates must read the manual and complete the APLS e-modules.
The APLS recertification course eligibility criteria have changed as part of the update to 7e:
All candidates must have completed an APLS course before and be no more than 6 months out of date. Please note: The recertification course is testing the retention of the APLS content and is not a teaching course for those whose knowledge and skills have lapsed.
- Medical candidates must be level ST4 or above and be currently practising in acute paediatrics regularly or in a relevant role. This could include doctors working in paediatrics (medicine or surgery), emergency medicine, anaesthetics and critical care as long as they regularly treat acutely ill or injured children in this role.
- Nursing and AHP candidates must have done a minimum of 2 full 2-day APLS courses and be currently practising in acute paediatrics regularly in a relevant role before they can apply to do the APLS recertification course. This could include working in paediatrics, emergency medicine, theatres and critical care as long as they regularly treat acutely ill or injured children in this role. • All candidates must confirm to course centres when applying for a place that they have a paediatric BLS certificate (no older than 12 months) and that they meet the eligibility rules to be eligible to attend.
