This study involved patients who have COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) and present to hospital with type 2 respiratory failure requiring non-invasive ventilation.

This study was hoping to validate a prognostic tool in a bid to accurately predict patient survival and help inform clinical decisions in patients with acute exacerbations of COPD requiring NIV. Data regarding the patients’ treatment, outcomes, quality of life after discharge will be collected over a period of a year to help inform the tool
