This is a multi-centre study aimed to gather and analyse patient data for the newly established National Perioperative Quality Improvement Programme (PQIP). PQIP will measure complications and outcomes after major surgery from the patients' perspective. Patients will be approached in participating hospitals and asked for their consent to have their data collected and used for research. This study is important as it will lead to better quality care for NHS patients such as achieving a reduction in the time spent in the hospital.
