This four-hour clinical skills workshop teaches both male and female catheterisation in one session, for NUH staff. This workshop is aimed at NUH registered health professionals. The workshop will include learning on:
- Anatomy & physiology
- Indications & contraindications
- Privacy & dignity
- Consent
- Infection control
- Equipment requirements
- Complications
- Escalation
- Documentation
A full demonstration will be provided showing both procedures before giving participants time to practice their new skills on our simulation mannequins under the supervision and guidance of our skilled, senior interprofessional educator.

This course is designed for registered nurses and allied health professionals within NUH.

IMPORTANT: On completion of this workshop you will be required to have your competency assessed before independent practice. You MUST have access to a clinical area prior to attending this workshop. Please ensure your clinical area can support this process before booking, as we are unable to facilitate this, thank you.
Please be aware that, after this course, you will be required to complete a combined role development package for both male and female adult urinary catheterisation (Role Development package for Adult Urinary Catheterisation (Male-female RD combined package) and undertake five supervised catheterisations within your own clinical setting, before being signed off as competent.
Please ensure your line manager and clinical area can support your competency sign off before attending the course, as this can not be supported by us.
