Overview
The Emergency Department Basic suturing course is for registered nurses who wish to perform theatre nurse role in the department.
The course comprises of a theory day with classroom teaching and practical application on suture mats. This is followed with 2 practice days in the department with an assessor to consolidate the classroom skills with patients.

The course is for Emergency Department staff at NUH only.
Venue:
DREEAM, A Floor, West Block, QMC Campus, Derby Road, Nottingham. NG7 2UH
Start and finish times:
08:00 – 15:30 (breaks are built into the course timetable)
Candidates will be expected to suture a number of areas on the body and to have a rounded knowledge of wounds and issues related to those areas.
Candidates will be taught interrupted suture, digital nerve block and field block.
You will need to complete a theory practice booklet to incorporate knowledge with practice.
Entonox training which is required and will need to be completed on ESR.
Candidates are expected to have an basic understanding of wound care and applied dressings prior to the course.
Admittance on to the course is by Letter of interest submitted to Lorraine Pell, course trainer and Clinical Lead.
