Are you a nurse or CSW in ED? We are looking for you to help us support the new CSA role by mentoring!
What is the CSA role?
The Clinical Skills Assistant (CSA) volunteer project is an initiative that addresses the lack of consistent opportunities for medical students to carry out clinical skills.
We will recruit medical students as volunteers to work in the ED, focusing on strengthening their clinical skills with feedback from experienced professionals.
What does this mean in practice?
After their induction, the CSAs will be trained in clinical skills (venepuncture, cannulation, etc) to the required professional standard as we do for all staff in ED. This approach involves completing a package for each skill, and then undertaking 10 supervised sign offs with a qualified assessor. The CSAs will be initially supernumerary on the shop floor, with 1:1 support from members of the ED team.
What does this mean for you?
We are looking for mentors (CSWs and B5 and 6 RGNs) to help support our recruits within their supernumerary period whilst they practice their skills. You will be regularly reviewing their progress, helping them to develop clinical and non-technical skills to ensure best practice, whilst supporting the department to deliver excellent care without exception.
Why should you apply?
**Mentor applications have closed now, but will open again in the future**
