This observational study was ran on the Adult Intensive Care Unit. It looked at a molecular toolkit for the microbial investigation of severe community pneumonia. We know that severe community acquired pneumonia is associated with a high mortality rate. At the moment microbiological diagnostics identify pathogens in half of cases, which is inadequate for clinical and epidemiological purposes. This study investigates the microbiome of severe community acquired pneumonia and evaluates metagenomics approaches as diagnostic tools. We do not have the results yet for this trial.
