The overall aim of VITDALIZE is to conduct a large international randomised controlled trial to determine if treatment with a high dose of vitamin D improves patient outcomes, in comparison to placebo in severely vitamin D deficient patients admitted to intensive care. It is thought that between 40-70% if ICU patients could be vitamin D deficient and this can be linked to poor outcomes in critical illness.
