The course is designed to help equip Clinical staff from a variety of roles; with the knowledge and skills to assess and manage, within their scope, any adult patient with a headache or seizure within their clinical setting.  

The breadth and depth of Neurological assessment, differentials and management is too board for a one-day course. 

This course will focus on the following:

  • An Overview of headaches and seizures.
  • A structured approach to history taking
  • A method of performing a Mini Neurological Examination

The course will use mixed teaching methodologies, there will be group discussions, PowerPoint presentations and simulation. 

There will be an emphasis throughout the course on the recognition of red flags heralding threatening presentations, and the importance of recognising the pathways of swift escalation and investigation of the patients within the candidates clinical setting. 

There is a comprehensive pre-reading document to will allow you, as the learner, to derive maximum benefit from the course.  Having a good prior knowledge of the classification and the different types of headaches, and seizures, fundamentals around history taking, including cardinal symptoms and red flags. There are links to further reading and resources throughout. 

 

Please note: you must have attended our Enhanced Clinical Skills Adults Course prior to attending this workshop.

This course is aimed at nurses, AHPs and practitioners in extended scope roles, that have already attended our Enhanced Clinical Skills Adults Course.
