The Emergency Department is a great place to do your SSM with lots of possibilities and learning opportunities available to you
Overview
Your SSM allows you time to improve your confidence as a clinician, as well as experience a breadth of specialties, including considering future career interests.
Our Emergency Department (ED) is the perfect place to do your Special Study Module (SSM) with endless possibilities and learning opportunities available to you. Students regularly give excellent feedback for their time in ED.
During your SSM, you will have opportunities to work in adults or paediatrics in one of the busiest Emergency Departments in Europe. You will also have tailored teaching and simulations from the senior medical team and direct supervision on and off the shop floor.
You will be encouraged to be part of the team, working with a variety of MDT members to ensure you have a positive and varied clinical experience. Further opportunities include experiencing management of major trauma cases, procedural skills and exposure to a variety of clinical specialties. You will also have opportunities to work with the emergency radiographers and pharmacists.
The SSM involves the opportunity to develop a project or emergency simulation with support from our DREEAM teaching fellow and ED consultants.
